How to Say Advanced Numbers in American and British Style

Most of us are being confused when saying big numbers, so in that lesson, we'll learn how to say big numbers or advanced in numbers from the very beginning, let's have a look and practice them:

Step one (Hundred Numbers)

100 = One hundred

101 = One hundred one (American style). One hundred and one (British style)

British style says one with a number but American style doesn't say it.  

It doesn't matter to say "and" or not to say it, and won't affect in understanding the numbers with both American and British style; which style should you use, doesn't matter; both are OK, everyone will understand if you speak American style or British style; British style doesn’t sound strange and American style doesn't sound strange.

150 = One hundred fifty (American). One hundred and fifty (British)

151 = One hundred fifty-one (American). One hundred and fifty-one (British)

792 = Seven hundred ninety-two (American). Seven hundred and ninety-two

999 = Nine hundred ninety-nine (American).  Nine hundred and ninety-nine (British)

Step two (Thousand Numbers)

1,001 = One thousand one (American). One thousand and one (British)

1,100 = One thousand one hundred (American). One thousand and one hundred (British).

7,324 = Seven thousand three hundred twenty-four (American). Seven thousand three hundred and twenty-four (British).  

10,555 = Ten thousand five hundred fifty-five (American). Ten thousand five hundred and fifty-five (British)

17,324 = Seventeen thousand three hundred twenty-four (American). Seventeen thousand three hundred and twenty-four (British)

152,666 = One hundred fifty-two thousand six hundred sixty-six (American). One hundred and fifty-two thousand six hundred and sixty-six (British)

So we can see that "and" is the main difference in saying numbers in American or British style.

Step Three (Million Numbers)

6,000,008 = Six million eight

5,500,000 = Five million five hundred thousand

13,620,432 = thirteen million six hundred and twenty thousand four hundred and thirty-two.

24,548,432 = twenty-four million five hundred and forty-eight thousand four hundred and thirty-two

125,432,947 = One hundred and twenty-five million four hundred and thirty-two thousand nine hundred and forty-seven.
